2011 Cardinal Newman Award – Mr. Chris Britton

Each year we select a teacher at the secondary level who represents our school’s values and works to bring our students to levels of mastery each and every day.  This annual award is now in its 4th year thanks to the generosity of the Gibbons Family.

This year’s award winner has been teaching at LMCHS for two years and has taken the difficult concepts of math and created a higher level of understanding.  He is often seen working with students before and after school, helping them achieve success in his classes.  He has taken a lead role in the incorporation and training of instructional technology in the classroom.  Further his passion for the subjects he teaches is resonated through improved student performance and understanding.  The 2011 Cardinal Newman Award winner is Mr. Chris Britton.

2011 Middle School Teacher of the Year – Mrs. Stephanie Rugg

Stephanie Rugg has taught English & Language Arts at our Middle School for six years.  She has exhibited strong professionalism and is what I would consider a Master Teacher.  Mrs. Rugg has learned to manage the challenges of motherhood while still excelling with her responsibilities as a teacher.  Her classroom practices are innovative and she is an extremely positive influence to our students.  Mrs. Rugg has led the Middle School Yearbook for several years and her students excel on the MEAP exam each and every year.

2011 High School Teacher of the Year – Mr. Doug Wall

Mr. Wall has brought a passion and excitement to the high school social studies department that is infectious to students.  Utilizing a variety of teaching methods, Mr. Wall incorporates visual and conceptual learning and the level of engagement of his students is excellent.  He incorporates real world examples and challenges our students through inquiry based lectures to determine not only what occurred but the thinking behind these occurrences.  Mr. Wall has worked closely with Mrs. Koch in their PLC group to further improve the overall social studies department in our schools.

The Elementary school Teacher of the Year will be announced on May 12th.
