LMC MS/HS "Teachers of the Year" Announced

Lake Michigan Catholic Middle & High School is proud to announce our "Teachers of the Year" for the 2009-10 school year.  Congratulations to Mr. Joseph Jarvie, Middle School Band Teacher, and Mrs. Carolyn Simmons, High School English/Yearbook teacher, who were selected as this year's winners!

Mrs. Simmons, Mr. Jarvie, Mrs. Jasper-Stump (Cardinal Newman Award)

Joseph Jarvie - Middle School Band Teacher

Joseph Jarvie has directed the band program at Lake Michigan Catholic Schools since 1982.  He has impacted thousands of students in his 28 year teaching career and his track record of achievement is impressive.  Not only do his bands lead the state in percentage of participation, they both scored overall 1’s in the 2010 Southwest Michigan Band and Orchestra Festival this spring.

Mr. Jarvie is a dedicated educator whose sense of humor has entertained parents and student alike with his “lunch room updates” and “freak dancing” alerts!  All kidding aside, Mr. Jarvie is a committed professional who has generated Laker pride for countless students!

Carolyn Simmons – High School English

Mrs. Simmons began her teaching career at Lake Michigan Catholic in 2006 after a distinguished career at St. Basil’s in South Haven.  She teaches Freshman and Junior English, AP/College English and Yearbook.  She has led student efforts to make our yearbook self sufficient and has improved the quality of the publication tremendously.  Mrs. Simmons has developed a flourishing Forensics Team who competed at the State Meet this spring.  She has taken a leadership role in the English Department of the High School and has been a valuable counselor/tutor for student speakers during Catholic Schools Week and Graduation Activities.  She remains a positive influence in the lives of our students and we are blessed that she is a member of the Laker Faculty.
