The Lake Michigan Catholic women's soccer team defeated the Bridgman Bees 1-0 June 2nd in district tournament play at Ss. John and Bernard Field in Benton Harbor. The tie brings the Lakers' record to 12-1-2 (8-1-1 BCS) on the season.
Game Summary:
The first half of the game was played primarily in the midfield, with both teams trading opportunities and offensive pressure. The Lakers had a number of looks at the goal, but solid defense and keeper play for Bridgman kept the score even at zero. The Laker defense played strong and did not allow a quality look to the Bridgman offense.
Four minutes into the second half, the Lakers were able to score what became the game-winning goal when Hattie Latham collected a backward pass from Maggie Tidey and chipped the Bridgman keeper to make the score 1-0. The Lakers generated consistent pressure throughout the half, but the Bee defense withstood the pressure. The Laker defense held strong in the final minutes as the Bees mounted some offensive pressure, but the Lakers did not allow a clear shot on goal and held on for the win.
The Lakers advance to play Schoolcraft in the District Final on Friday, June 4 at Ss. John and Bernard Field in Benton Harbor at 6 pm.
